The Missionary Sisters of Divine Mercy was founded on June 21st, 2003 in Nigeria in the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi by Rev. Mother Caroline Amaka Osegbo of the Merciful Jesus with the principal scope of witnessing God's merciful Love in the Church and among all people of the world without discrimination, under the the patronages of the Merciful Jesus, Our Blessed Mary Mother of Mercy and St. Maria faustina Kowalska. And in July 22nd, 2004, after having gone through the application and Rule of life written by the Foundress, Sr. Caroline Amaka Osegbo and having taken into consideration other necessary factors His Lordship Most Rev. Hilary Paul odili Okeke, the first Catholic bishop of Nnewi Diocese granted her the official permission to continue with the process of founding this religious group of celibate women.
GENERAL PURPOSE: The members are dedicated to God through the profession of the three Evangelical Vows of Chasitity, Poverty, Obedience in order to seek the Perfection of charity in the service of God's Kingdom for the honour and glory of God, the building up of the church and the salvation of the whole world.
PARTICULAR PURPOSE: It is to promote God's Merciful Love throughout the whole world and live out a life of Divine Mercy in various ways without discrimination.
CHARISM: The special charism of the Missionary Sisters of Divine Mercy is "CLOSER IMITATION OF THE MERCIFUL JESUS" ( Be merciful as your Heavenly Father is Merciful; Lk6:36 ) By this charism, all the members are committed to the promotion of Divine Mercy Cult and are called to be merciful, to model their life after that of the Merciful Jesus, offering unconditional love to every person without discrimination.
MOTTO: The Motto is " With Trust, Love and Mercy go through life doing good to all". So, all the members strive to sow seeds of trust, love and mercy in any place and in any difficult situation irrespective of race or religion etc.
SPIRITUALITY: The spirituality is rooted in the Mystery of Divine Mercy. ( that is: Mercy in Action )
SPECIFIC APOSTOLATES: We engage in the promotion of Devotion to the Divine Mercy, Corporal and Spiritual works of mercy and needs of the Church through;
1) ASSISTANCE TO THE POOR PEOPLE
2) HELPING THE AGED AND SICK PRIESTS
3) PASTORAL MINISTRY
4) EDUCATIONAL AT ALL LEVEL
5) MEDICAL
6) YOUTH APOSTOLATE
7) OPEN TO THE DIRECTION OF THE SPIRIT OF THE MERCIFUL JESUS
"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy mt.25:40", "I desire mercy and not sacrifice, for I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance mt.9:13", "whatever you do to the least of my brothers, you did it to me mt.5:7"
SPIRIT OF THE INSTITUTE: We do all our apostolates with the spirit of love,compassion,sacrifice,trust and mercy.Each sister strives to be channel of Divine Mercy in living out her consecration.
MEMBERSHIP: It is an International in membership for celibate women.
ENTRY QUALIFICATION: Young girls between the age of 17 and 30 with right intention, good health and with good academic certificates, preferably those with professional training like Diploma, Degrees, Masters and Doctoral Degrees etc.
PLACES WHERE WE ARE: Manycommunities in Nigeria (Africa), Italy (Europe) and India (Asia). We shall soon open a comunity in America.
